New Millennium Research Council: Why Are There So Few Prepaid Phone Customers In The U.S.? Survey To Explore What Keeps More Consumers From Using Alternative To Often More Expensive Postpaid Cell Service

Dec 02, 2008 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
WASHINGTON, D.C.///News Advisory///Why do a third or more of consumers in other developed nations use prepaid cell phone services while the use of such phone service in the U.S. is less than half that level? What portion of U.S. cell phone customers currently using postpaid/contract-based cell phone service might save money if they switched to the prepaid alternative? To what extent do 10 myths about prepaid phones and ignorance about the early-cancellation penalties in postpaid contract terms inhibit cell phone service switching?

At a time when a growing number of U.S. consumers are cutting the fat from their household budgets, these questions and others about cell phone use will be answered in a national opinion survey of more than 1,000 Americans conducted by Opinion Research Corporation (ORC) for the New Millennium Research Council (NMRC). The scientific national poll findings will be released at 1:30 p.m. ET Thursday (December 4, 2008) during a live, phone-based national news conference.

News event speakers will be:
* Allen Hepner, scholar, New Millennium Research Council; and
* Graham Hueber, senior researcher, Opinion Research Center.
