Monaco Telecom, a telecomms company and affiliate of Cable & Wireless,
has revealed it is working with wireless broadband solutions provider
Alvarion Ltd (Nasdaq:ALVR), networking solutions provider Cisco and
mobile communications company Nokia (NYSE:NOK), to set up a Center of
Excellence on Mobile Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access
(WiMAX) in Monaco.

The project is intended to demonstrate the mobility and high-speed
features offered by Mobile WiMAX 802.16e-2005. The companies said the
technology enables customers to benefit from a seamless service and
move freely while using Internet applications such as VoIP and
streaming video.

Alvarion confirmed that the centre will showcase personal broadband
services and demonstrate its 802.16e-2005-based 4Motion solution, which
is expected to reach a commercial level this year.

Cisco's Broadband Wireless Gateway solution is a key part of the
solution and part of the company's WiMAX offering, providing WiMAX
Access Service Network (ASN) gateway functionality. Nokia is providing
its expertise in mobility, along with an Internet Tablet which is
compatible with WiMAX 2.5GHz.

Monaco Telecom said the WiMAX strategy and network architecture are
necessary for it to maintain its competitive position as a global
operator and maximise WiMAX capabilities. The Center of Excellence is
expected to provide 'best-of-breed' WiMAX and result in the
implementation of various networks around the world, according to
Unstrung.
