Wavelink Rolls Out Terminal Emulation 7.0 Featuring Wavelink SpeakEasy(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Wavelink, a developer of multi-vendor mobile application and infrastructure management software for the enterprise, announced Wavelink Terminal Emulation (TE) 7.0 featuring patent-pending Wavelink SpeakEasy, a unique Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech capability. Wavelink TE 7.0 is the first product of its kind to leverage voice for hands-free data collection without modification of the host applications or any need for additional hardware and software. Wavelink TE runs in thousands of mission-critical supply chain environments, including over 90 percent of the top 25 retailers in the world. With the release of TE including Wavelink SpeakEasy, Wavelink customers can leverage high quality, voice-driven data collection for enhanced productivity of their mobile workforce and IT staff as well as the applications and devices they use. Wavelink TE 7.0 also features optimized SAP Web console support and a security offering for terminal emulation using SSL/SSH - a secure standards-based solution with no proprietary encryption to address Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Wavelink TE 7.0 provides the industry's most comprehensive solution for accessing and managing connections to applications resident on host systems, extending mission-critical business applications from legacy back-office mainframe computer systems to the front lines of the mobile workplace. Voice-specific mobile devices are not required, no additional server hardware or software is needed, and customers do not need to modify the host application to leverage voice capabilities, the company noted. "With the addition of voice, companies are able to take the benefit of wireless to the next level," said Lamar Van Wagenen, president and chief operating officer of Wavelink Corp. "Wavelink's unique TE voice product underscores our commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation -- offering resellers and their retail customers the wireless solutions they need to realize and sustain competitive advantage." Wavelink SpeakEasy is initially available for Motorola/Symbol's WT4090 hand-held device. This Wavelink SpeakEasy Technology for voice-enabled emulation will become available for several other devices in the coming weeks. In addition to voice capabilities, TE 7.0 offers enhanced protection for mobile devices and data. The solution provides unrivaled standards-based security utilizing a unique combination of SSL and SSH protocols, rather than unproven proprietary solutions. As a result, customers can now eliminate insecure communications ports, such as Telnet on their host system to ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance, and still rely on proven standards-based security protocols to holistically protect communications. Additionally, TE 7.0 enables customers to leverage the multivendor Wavelink Industrial Browser (WIB) to access their SAP Web Console. Scripting enhancements integrate seamlessly with WIB, enabling customers to quickly and easily launch third-party applications, and the new WIB Session Monitor provides session override support. TE 7.0 supports VT, 3270 and 5250 emulation. The Voice-enabled feature and WIB support is also available through two additional cost licensing upgrades, the company noted in a release. TE 7.0 is now available.
