Alltel Wireless, America’s most expansive wireless network has announced its new Axcess Broadband service in St. Clairsville and adjoining areas of New Philadelphia, Marietta, and Wheeling W.Va. Based on EVDO (evolution data optimized) technology, the service will ensure unlimited wireless Internet connectivity at speeds as good as those offered by wired broadband connections such as cable modem or DSL.

Axcess Broadband will allow itinerant users to perform activities like surfing the Internet, accessing e-mail and downloading graphic-intensive files. Users will be able to fulfill their business and entertainment requirements by accessing the Internet through their notebooks or smartphones. The service offers average speeds of 400 to 700 Kbps and maximum speeds as high as 2.4 Mbps.

“Alltel Wireless is committed to meeting the growing data needs of our customers,” said Karen DelSignore, vice president of business solutions for Alltel Wireless in Ohio and West Virginia according to a press release. “Axcess Broadband wireless Internet service delivers an unmatched wireless broadband experience that will keep both traveling business professionals and casual users connected with the fastest and most reliable data services.”

Alltel first introduced the Axcess Broadband service in Cleveland and Akron in 2005. The service reach was recently expanded to Youngstown and nearby communities, including Warren, Boardman, Salem and East Liverpool. Nationally, the service has been launched in metros like Phoenix, Tampa, Charlotte and Lansing; in smaller cities such as Little Rock, Ark.; Raleigh, N.C., and Savannah, Ga., and in towns such as Grand Haven, Mich.; Dothan, Ala., and Casa Grande, Ariz.

The service also supports Alltel’s Axcess TV which has more than 25 channels, and XM radio, which offer 20 high-quality satellite radio music channels.

Customers can make unlimited use of the service at $59.99 a month, all they need is an EVDO-enabled handset, like the MOTORAZR V3m, or a laptop PC data card, like the Kyocera Passport 1xEVDO PC Card.
