Dell Launches Energy Smart Servers

Dell (News - Alert) Inc., the world’s largest computer manufacturer, has reaffirmed its commitment to the environment by introducing two of the most energy-efficient servers in the market. With the latest offering, Dell has become a pioneer of industry’s first standards-based servers engineered specifically for energy efficiency.

Based on Dell’s Energy Smart technology, the new servers, PowerEdge 1950 and 2950 are low on energy consumption and high on cost savings. The enhanced models optimize power consumption by almost 24 percent and their efficiency per watt is 25 percent higher. These improvements are achieved by features like low-flow fan technology, high-efficiency power supplies, dual-Core Intel (News - Alert) Xeon low-voltage processors and factory integrated BIOS plus unique component specifications directed towards increased efficiency and air flow.

The enhancements can lead to cost saving to the tune of hundreds of dollars per server per year, which amounts to millions of dollars per year in large data center deployments.

Another important advantage is the smaller energy footprint which can be utilized to achieve a higher density in the data center by installing four PowerEdge Energy Smart servers instead of three standard servers in the same “power envelope”.

Dell PowerEdge Energy Smart servers are perfect for consolidation and virtualization as they allow users to balance capacity demand with same or reduced physical space and price range. In accordance with Dell’s scalable enterprise strategy, both the models also enable scalability, resulting power and cost saving.

“Dell’s commitment to designing products that simplify operations and lower our customers’ overall cost of ownership is unwavering,” said Brad Anderson, senior vice president, Dell Product Group, said in a statement to the press.

“New PowerEdge Energy Smart servers combined with Dell OptiPlex desktops and Dell’s excellent services, partnerships and sustainability programs deliver on our commitment to drive energy-efficient solutions that increase performance and reduce power consumption from the desktop to the data center.”

Selling at $2,449 and $2,619, respectively, the Dell PowerEdge Energy Smart 1950 and 2950 servers are available globally starting today.
