In a Reuters report Tuesday quoting information from Internet tracking firm Hitwise, MySpace.com announced that it’s been ranked the number one U.S. website, ahead of Yahoo and Google (News - Alert).

Reuters reported MySpace.com as snagging 4.46 percent of all U.S. Internet visits during the week ending July 8, 2006. That percentage puts the online social networking site ahead of Yahoo.com, Google.com, and MSN Hotmail’s website.

MySpace.com also claims 80 percent of visits to online social networking sites, the report said, up from 76 percent during the month of April. As a comparison, FaceBook came won second prize with 7.6 percent of visits.

MySpace.com was acquired by News Corp. last year for $580 million. Lately, it has come under fire for allegedly not doing enough to protect underage users from online predators.
