Telefonica Taps Lucent to Increase Performance Management

Lucent Technologies announced this week that it was tapped by Telefónica de España to increase the performance management of the European telecom's application servers and all network traffic using Lucent's VitalSuite Application Performance Management software.

 

Lucent will provide Telefónica Sistemas, the European telecom's IT department, which is responsible for managing Telefonica's worldwide network, with VitalSuite performance management agents that monitor key applications and system resources. By using software agents and scripts, Telefónica's IT group will be able to increase the performance of its application servers and systems resources throughout its entire, global network.

 

Lucent's services unit will provide consulting and network integration services for the deployment of VitalSuite into Telefónica's network. "We chose Lucent's VitalSuite Application Performance Management software to significantly increase our overall network and application performance," said Olegario Méndez, corporate network operations manager at Telefónica de España in a statement.

 

VitalSuite software agents are monitoring multi-vendor equipment in Telefónica's network, such as Cisco Systems' (News - Alert) and Juniper routers as well as servers from Sun, HP, Microsoft (News - Alert) and Linux.

 

"We are pleased to be able to deliver a solution that will help Telefonica ensure highest service levels for office and mission-critical applications," stated Olivier Bruyndonckx, OSS/BSS Sales Director for the EMEA region, Lucent Technologies (News - Alert).

 

Telefónica de España made news earlier this month when it announced it sought the help from French technology provider Alcatel (News - Alert) to provide access, aggregation and optical networking products and services, allowing the telecom to offer high bandwidth interactive services to its residential and corporate subscribers.

 

The integrated suite of products and services will enable the simultaneous delivery of personalized multimedia services such as IPTV (News - Alert), video on demand and HDTV to residential customers and advanced virtual private network services for its corporate customers.
