Samsung Introduces Hybrid Hard Drive

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Samsung announced recently it is all set to introduce a Hybrid Hard Drive (HHD) that combines flash memory with traditional rotating magnetic storage.

Samsung claims that its next-generation drive is outfitted with magnetic storage-- offering the high storage densities available in standard hard-drive technology as well as includes flash memory--making the drive dependable while facilitating fast read-write access and the lowering power consumption.

One of the beneficial features of the Hybrid Hard Drive (HHD) is that the hard drive remains inactive when flash memory is in operation. Thus, the drive helps users save battery power, and allows the drive to remain safe.

"Hybrid hard disks and Windows ReadyDrive Technology are integrated advancements that improve the performance and reliability of computers using Windows Vista, especially notebook computers," Newsfactor quotes Mike Sievert, Microsoft's corporate vice president in the Windows Client Marketing division, as saying.

The drive will make its debut at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in Seattle, Washington .
