CommuniGate and Voxbone Partner on Number Portability Using SIP

TMCnet Contributing Editor

CommuniGate Systems and Voxbone have partnered to increase the portability of IP communications beyond fixed locations. The partnership will enable corporate and consumer customers to take their phone number on the road and have local dial-in and dial-out capabilities in 40 countries.

The new solution works by providing mobile users of CommuniGate Pro with a single address for all IP communications. The address, in the form of a standard email address, interoperates with SIP-based clients as well as softphones and WiFi (News - Alert) phones. The clients use a CIP identifier or address of record (AOR), dialing aliases like numeric extensions, or full PSTN numbers to route the users. This creates complete connectivity to PSTN and mobile phones, and enables users to take advantage of a traditional phone number as well as send and receive voice and data IP communications from a single email address.

VoIP carrier Voxbone is providing the virtual phone numbers in more than 40 countries. Their service enables users and companies to access numbers from any of these countries to receive their incoming phone calls via SIP. Numbers are registered with the CommuniGate Pro server, no matter where it is located, and are then routed to internal users on a PBX. The origination capability enables users to establish remote office capabilities throughout the world.

"For business users, VoIP delivers the flexibility and power of access no matter where they are in the world," said Rodrigue Ullens, co-founder of Voxbone. "We are pleased to be working with CommuniGate Pro as a battled-tested and Internet-ready communications solution."

"As the world's more than one billion email accounts are converted to SIP based communications such as VoIP, Video and Instant Messaging, CommuniGate Systems is committed to the development of applications and services that people can use to connect and be reachable anywhere they are," said Jon Doyle, vice president of business development for CommuniGate Systems. "Our partnership with Voxbone demonstrates that we are enhancing the capabilities of true mobility and portability of communications for the business user, with real and immediate value."
