Exterity Delivers The Largest UK Deployment Of Corporate IPTV To ReutersExterity’s TVgateway delivers 60 digital and terrestrial channels to over 250 displays and 2,500 desktops London, 31st January 2006: Exterity, a specialist in network audio-visual (AV) has successful deployed the UK’s largest corporate IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) system in Reuters’ new UK headquarters in Canary Wharf, London. Reuters, a global information company providing indispensable information tailored for professionals in the financial services, media and corporate markets, is using the system to replace the traditional, expensive and slow to deploy coaxial system, to ensure that every employee has access to national, international and internal TV channels, helping them to stay abreast of world events. Using Exterity’s TVgateways, which are plug and play broadcast TV to IP network distribution products, Reuters can stream 60 digital satellite, terrestrial and internally produced channels across its existing data and telephony network. The images are displayed, using Exterity’s idaptor receivers, on over 300 displays in conference rooms and lecture theatres and on 2,500 PC desktops. The system ensures that every employee has access to the information they need, when they need it. “As an international news provider, it is essential that our staff have instant access to global television” explained Matt Hassock, Reuters Technical Manager for the IPTV project. “The TVgateways from Exterity ensure that our journalists and managers have quick and easy access to the information that they need to do their job effectively.” The new system replaced the coaxial systems used in former premises, which were expensive to maintain and slow to deploy, as relocations and additions usually involved lifting floors and running cables. “The system deployed at Reuters not only is the largest deployment of corporate IPTV in the UK but also marks one of the few truly converged systems that have been deployed in the UK including voice, data and video,” commented Colin Farquhar, Managing Director, Exterity. “Using the existing network to deliver IPTV, Reuters is making the most of available bandwidth and existing network cabling, and has eliminating the cost and time needed to maintain a traditional coaxial system.” The new system has been installed by Team 4, a leading broadcast and AV systems integrator and Affiniti, the communications integrator created from the coming together of Kingston Communications Business Service, Omnetica and Technica, who were responsible for the entire systems integration as well as supplying the network. Exterity’s idaptor and tridaptor TVgateways are ‘plug and play’ broadcast TV to IP network distribution products. Taking up to six DVB-T (digital video broadcasting-terrestrial) or DVB-S (digital video broadcasting – satellite) feeds, the TVgateways will stream the programme contents of up to six broadcast TV multiplexes over a building network. The idaptor and tridaptor TVgateways make IPTV headends a cost-effective alternative to traditional TV and video distribution systems for organisations including corporate, universities, colleges and schools. Once on the building network the TV channels can be delivered through IPTV set-top-box products such as the Exterity idaptor receiver, or through PC’s using streaming video clients such as Windows Media Player. |
