AT&T just scored a three-year data and voice networking contract from ResMAE Mortgage Corp., a wholesale mortgage lender, the companies announced on Thursday. ResMAE and AT&T have been working together since 2003.

Specifically, the agreement calls for AT&T to link ResMAE's nine domestic offices through an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN). According to the companies' news release, ResMAE "plans to use the new high-speed network to roll out Voice over IP (VoIP) technology, and also as a critical back-up network for data and Internet traffic, helping to ensure uninterrupted service for ResMAE and its customers."

"AT&T's network offers the low latency, high quality voice services that we need to run Voice over IP and can scale easily as we continue our rapid growth," said Christopher Lappi, executive vice president for ResMAE Mortgage Corp. "Using the Internet for phone calls places us at the cutting edge of applying technology to enhance client support and customer service. Additionally, it will make us more efficient and flexible and will greatly improve our overall productivity and reduce operating costs across the business."

AT&T has been scoring voice and data network deals left and right this month. Indeed, the telecom giant announced yesterday that it was awarded a $1.2 million contract from Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. to provide an IP VPN. The retailer tapped AT&T because it wanted a system that would integrate all its stores, corporate offices and distribution centers across the United States.

The telecom giant was also hired by Inventec Corp. to deploy AT&T’s IP VPN. According to a news announcement released by the companies on Tuesday, "Inventec, a global provider of smart handheld and Internet appliances, selected AT&T to provide a tailored communications network that integrates the operations of its employees, customers and trading partners across China, Japan, the United Kingdom and United States."

Air Products and Chemicals Inc. announced last Wednesday that it awarded AT&T a multimillion-dollar IP VPN contract. The agreement asked for AT&T to link Air Products' 500 company locations in 30 countries through the deployment of a IP VPN. According to the companies' news release, AT&T will also "provide custom network management, including monitoring of routers and switches, as well as data transport."  AT&T will convert Air Products’ sites in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East to multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology.

AT&T also announced last Tuesday that it inked a three-year, $3.2 million networking contract with Atrium Companies Inc., a window and patio door manufacturer. The deal asks for AT&T to link Atrium's 54 locations spread across 22 states and Mexico through the deployment of an IP VPN.

AT&T and SBC made an announcement on Aug. 17 about the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approving the merger of the two companies. The announcement came after the completion of the regulatory review process in AT&T’s home state.
