Unisys Administration Console to Simplify JBoss Management and Implementation

ATLANTA --(Business Wire)-- March 2, 2005 -- Web-Based "Point-and-Click" Interface Automates Complex Development Projects and Creates Significant Time Efficiencies

Today at JBoss World, Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) released the Unisys JBoss(R) Administration Console to the open source community. The Administration Console is an interface designed to automate JBoss-based server management - eliminating the need for extensive and complicated XML code entry. The Administration Console also retains information, eliminating the need to be updated at a later date or re-entered in the event of server failure -a current challenge when not using a development interface tool. This announcement comes on the heels of a multi-year agreement between JBoss, Inc. and Unisys to offer enterprise customers production support for JBoss Application Server on scalable Unisys server platforms.

The Administration Console runs as a web-based application within a single JBoss Application Server and uses Java Management Extensions (JMX) to communicate with other servers running on the same host. Thus, a single Administration Console can manage all of the servers operating on an individual host. The Administration Console also provides:

-- Management of the server life-cycle, including creation of new servers, deletion of existing servers, and starting/stopping a server;

-- Configuration of various services in the application server, including setting ports used by the server, defining data sources, managing the Java Messaging System (JMS) destinations, and deploying/un-deploying applications;

-- Display of log files to the administrator.

"Unisys has an ongoing commitment to support the open source JBoss platform, and is pleased to further our commitment by providing developers and administrators a tool to ease the server management process," said Ali Shadman, vice president, Strategic Software, Unisys. "The Administration Console streamlines procedures and provides greater security in disaster recovery situations. What previously took days to complete, can now be managed in a matter of hours. By improving development time efficiency and security Unisys is able to provide critical benefits to the development and administration communities."

Compatibility & Availability

The Administration Console is available immediately under Lesser General Public License (LGPL) at www.unisys.com/tech/adminconsole. The tool is designed for use on a variety of platforms, with Windows and Unisys mainframe environments being the initial focus of this first release. Additional developments and functionality enhancements will be forthcoming.
