NetOp Remote Control Tested 508 Compliant; Latest Version Of NetOp Remote Control Certified 508 Compliant, Making NetOp Accessible to People with Disabilities

BOCA RATON, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- May 5, 2004 -- CrossTec Corporation, the North American distributor for the award-winning line of NetOp products, announced today that NetOp Remote Control Version 7.65 has been independently tested to be 508 Compliant. After months of evaluations and adjustments, Criterion Section 508 Solutions has certified NetOp's latest version of Remote Control for Windows operating systems to be 508 Compliant under the strict standards set forth by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require all Federal agencies to have, when available, electronic and information technology that is accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals.

"We're very excited to bring 508 compliancy to NetOp Remote Control," Errol Zentmyer, Vice President of the government sector at CrossTec, explains. "We could've taken on the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) process ourselves. However, we decided to work with Criterion to insure an unbiased VPAT approval to guarantee that NetOp is indeed 508 compliant."

Designed for disabled employees, 508 Compliancy requires that an application be entirely navigational through the use of the keyboard alone. CrossTec made the decision to contract with Criterion Section 508 Solutions based on their outstanding reputation for conducting extensive tests to insure compliancy. In order to become certified, Criterion reviews applications from a variety of perspectives including: focus groups, strategic planners, ADA legal experts, and application developers. When all testing has been completed, Criterion then has the software evaluated by a group of visually impaired individuals to insure that the application is completely functional without the use of a monitor or mouse.

Upon the completion of NetOp's 508 certification, Criterion provided CrossTec with a certificate of compliance and a legal letter of due diligence certifying that NetOp Remote Control has completed all the necessary tests to attain 508 Compliancy.
