WellSpan Selects Courion for Automated User Provisioning; Courion's AccountCourier to Improve Service Levels, Increase Security and Reduce Costs


FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 13, 2004 -- Courion(R) Corporation, a leading provider of self-service identity management solutions, today announced that Wellspan Health selected Courion's award-winning user provisioning solution, AccountCourier(R), to improve customer service levels, increase security, achieve HIPAA compliance and reduce costs.



In the wake of merger activities over the past four years, Wellspan's user population and the number of applications under management has grown exponentially. Still, the company had just two full-time equivalents dedicated to handling account creation, change and termination. As a result, the IT and security teams at Wellspan sought a solution to automate the time consuming and costly tasks associated with user provisioning. They selected Courion's AccountCourier because of its proven ability to streamline the user provisioning process while simultaneously increasing security and service levels and reducing costs.

With this larger network of care points, Wellspan reached a critical mass of users and applications. There was no choice but to automate the user provisioning process in order to maintain its strict security policies and to increase the level of service provided to its users. Wellspan vice president and CIO William Gillespie, explains, "This increase in the user population translates into several thousand more user IDs and passwords for the Wellspan IT and security staff to manage. AccountCourier's automated provisioning process will allow us to avoid time-consuming manual processes. Wellspan will rollout AccountCourier in conjunction with the introduction of its IDX Imagecast PACS (Picture Archiving Capture System), a part of Wellspan's effort to create completely electronic health records for every patient. Without AccountCourier, accounts for Wellspan's user population would have to be created manually for this new application rollout, which could significantly delay its adoption and detract from its ability to streamline the management of patient data. With AccountCourier in place, each of Wellspan's 7,000 users will have an appropriate level of access to PACS within minutes.

After rolling out AccountCourier in conjunction with the IDX Imagecast implementation, Wellspan also plans to automate provisioning for Microsoft Windows NT, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Windows 2000/2003, AIX and VMS accounts. In addition, the company will take advantage of Courion's ability to leverage the existing technology infrastructure and integrate AccountCourier with its CA help desk application for easy tracking and audit reports.
