Survey says 88% percent of voters choose GLOBALCOMM event about telecom sector

(Business Wire Latin America - English Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)In an independent online poll completed this week, Light Reading, CMP Media's online journal dedicated to "Networking the Telecom Industry," declared TIA's GLOBALCOMM(TM) the tradeshow of choice by a vast majority -- 88 percent of voters. TelecomNEXT, USTelecom's conference, received just 12 percent of the votes. Light Reading's "Tradeshow Turmoil" polling was conducted over one week from April 3 through April 10, 2006 with more than 220 respondents.

When asked, "If you had to choose, which show would you favor supporting from a marketing standpoint," respondents voiced a strong 7-to-1 opinion that GLOBALCOMM(TM) offered the best venue for conducting business. Even more revealing, 85 percent of these telecom professionals said they will return to Chicago in 2007 to spend marketing dollars and exhibit at GLOBALCOMM(TM) after this year's program, June 4-8.

Of the Light Reading poll respondents, 86 percent said the TelecomNEXT program failed to live up to its billing, according to the survey report. A March 22, 2006 Telephony article detailed some primary issues that exhibitors were concerned about: the March TelecomNEXT dates conflicted with larger industry events, and that heavy conference schedule contributed to poor traffic at the exhibits.

In addition, the cost of sustaining two industry shows continues to be a concern; the poll notes that "an overwhelming 92 percent" of its respondents plan to only support one show or the other in 2007.

With 450+ exhibitors and 20,000 attendees expected from 100 countries, GLOBALCOMM(TM) truly is "the next-generation global communications marketplace and summit," said A.J. Janosko, Vice President of Global Events for TIA.

"It is an annual international sales, marketing and networking event like no other in our industry," he added, "a venue where buyers and sellers come together to build the networks of tomorrow. And these buyers are busy making their plans to attend GLOBALCOMM(TM)2006 event today."

Janosko said exhibit sales are strong this year and the show will offer more than 185,000 net square feet of exhibition space and floor space at McCormick Place. TIA will also perform an independent audit of its attendees, Janosko explained, noting that, to the best of his knowledge, TelecomNEXT is not an audited event, so the true numbers and demographics of TelecomNEXT's attendees will never be accurately captured, making it difficult for exhibitors to measure their ROI.
