Stop & Shop Restore to Sponsor the Great Boston Cleanup with Keep Massachusetts BeautifulStop & Shop's Restore program today announced that it will be the exclusive sponsor of the Great Boston Cleanup Event on Friday, October 1st from 1-4 pm. The event is organized by Keep Massachusetts Beautiful, a nonprofit organization which works to make Massachusetts communities cleaner, greener places to live, work, and play. The Stop & Shop Restore team will join 260 volunteers from Boston-area companies and other organizations to help collect and remove the litter that accumulates on city streets, sidewalks, and public spaces over the summer months. The announcement comes on the two-year anniversary of the launch of the Stop & Shop Restore Program, which offsets carbon dioxide tailpipe emissions on all fuel purchased at Stop & Shop fuel locations. Through a partnership with GreenPrint, an environmental technology company, carbon dioxide emissions are calculated on each gallon of fuel purchased. Investments in certified carbon offset projects are made to capture or reduce carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. The entire process from carbon calculation to carbon credit retirement is attested to for accuracy. To date, the program has offset 158,895 metric tons of carbon, the equivalent of 28,862 homes' electricity for one year. The Restore program also has planted 100,000 trees through a partnership with Arbor Day Foundation and supports local non-profit organizations including Keep Massachusetts Beautiful and the Rhode Island Tree Council by conducting and hosting tree plantings, neighborhood cleanups, and other local projects to support the local community.
