Panera Bread to open next week

VICTORVILLE, Jan 16, 2013 (Daily Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The City Council approved the spending of $77,000 to install an automated phone system for water and trash services during the first public meeting of the year on Tuesday evening.

The Voice Utility Interactive Voice Response solution provided by Selectron Technologies will allow residents to access their utility accounts by phone to make payments, check balances, review billing and payment history.

"It will notify customers via phone if they are about to be shut off and offer them the opportunity to pay their bill over the phone," City Manager Doug Robertson said.

Robertson said the new system will save money for the city over time, though his staff has not calculated a savings estimate.

"The time on each call taken by a customer service representative should be reduced and the number of calls should also be reduced," Robertson said.

Panera Bread to open next week Panera Bread will hold the soft opening of its first store in the Victor Valley on Monday, Robertson announced.

The new cafe was built in the Dunia Plaza shopping center at the southwest corner of Bear Valley and Amargosa roads. The 4,200-square-foot drivethru will host its grand opening at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Robertson said.

Speed limit changes Local residents will see some changes in speed limits on streets across the city.

The council adopted speed limits that were calculated based on engineering speed surveys.
