The New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning Builds on Its Successful Program to Create New STEM Teachers

TRENTON, N.J., July 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning (NJCTL) today announced an important new step in creating additional teachers in key underrepresented fields of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.  NJCTL and its university partner, Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSU-Global), provide current teachers in New Jersey and beyond with accessible, high-quality online education to both learn and teach these key subjects.

Teachers of any academic background throughout the United States can earn 30+ graduate credits for online courses in physics, chemistry and mathematics.  New Jersey teachers who enroll in NJCTL's endorsement program are approved by the state of NJ to use these courses to earn an endorsement to teach these subjects.  Teachers in other states and internationally can also earn graduate credit and may (depending on state requirements) use these credits to earn an endorsement to teach these subjects.

In addition, teachers who meet the admission requirements at CSU-Global may apply up to 18 of these NJCTL credits towards their online M.S. in Teaching and Learning degree.  To qualify for transfer, NJCTL students must supply a transcript verifying they have earned at least a B+ in the NJCTL course, as well as maintained a combined GPA of at least 3.0.

Dr. Robert (Bob) Goodman, Executive Director of NJCTL, explained, "We are dedicated to spearheading a scalable solution to the crisis-level gap in quality STEM education for students throughout the United States, and throughout the world."  He further clarified, "For instance in the U.S. alone, over 40% of high schools still don't offer physics, a fundamenta building block for further STEM study and success in STEM careers.  We are excited that our important, growing partnership with CSU-Global will help us build on our platform as the #1 producer of physics teachers in the country, and a leading producer of chemistry teachers, by giving teachers of every academic background the opportunity to both learn and teach STEM subjects to address this chronic need."
