NEC Solutions America Achieves Best TPC-H (1000GB) Benchmark Score among Servers Using Next Generation Microsoft(R) SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and Microsoft Windows Server(TM) 2003 with NEC Itanium(R) 2-Based Express5800/1320Xe Server

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 8, 2005 -- NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, announced new TPC-H 1,000GB benchmark scores conducted on its 32-way and 16-way NEC Express5800/1320Xe servers -- running Microsoft's next generation SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition (64-bit). Among systems using Microsoft SQL Server, NEC received the highest results with 22,967 QphH@1000GB (Composite Query-per-Hour Performance Metric (QphH@Size)(1)) for the 32-way and 14,203 QphH@1000GB for the 16-way. By achieving a QphH@1000GB result over 20,000 and over 1.6x performance scalability between the 32-way and 16-way results, NEC has demonstrated the strength in high performance, scalability and availability of its Itanium 2-based servers. Both versions of the NEC Express5800/1320Xe (32-way and 16-way) server hardware are now available and those with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 will be available by December 7, 2005.

The new TPC-H performance metric benchmark score 22,967 QphH@1000GB and TPC-H price/performance metric $68.51/QphH@1000GB was obtained on NEC's 32-way Express5800/1320Xe system. NEC's 16-way Express5800/1320Xe system with the TPC-H Performance Metric of 14,203 QphH@1000GB had a TPC-H Price/Performance Metric of $97.19/QphH@1000GB. Both scores were accomplished by leveraging NEC's high performing chipset, NEC S2300 Storage Disk Array with SAN capability, Intel(R) Itanium 2 processors, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and Microsoft's next generation database software Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

TPC-H is a benchmark that contains a suite of business oriented ad-hoc queries and concurrent data modifications used to model a decision support environment. The primary performance metric, the TPC-H Composite Query-per-Hour Performance Metric, is used as an overall indication of how well the multiple aspects of a system -- working together -- are able to process queries over the course of an hour. "By achieving high TPC-H (1000GB) scores on both our 16-way and 32-way versions of the NEC Express5800/1320Xe server shows our continual success among non cluster systems. The NEC Express5800/1320Xe server utilizes the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition to achieve strength in performance, scalability and availability," said Larry Sheffield, executive vice president, Solutions Platform Group, NEC Solutions America. "This is a testament to NEC's success and commitment in providing enterprises with the most superior, and high-performing computing capabilities needed to be competitive in today's business environment."
