Mississippi Baptist Health Systems Institutes AbbaDox Charge Capture by IDS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

Medical Practice Solutions (MPS), a division of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems, Inc., in Jackson, MS, has selected IDS technology to expedite hospitalists' billing and tighten the healthcare system's revenue cycle. AbbaDox Charge Capture empowers physicians with the ability to record and immediately submit patient care charge details directly to billing departments. In addition to shortening the submission time of revenue generating data, it eliminates the gaps and potential breakdowns that may occur in the documenting and transferring of this critical information.

Lost or late charge submissions that can occur with a typical paper process are no longer a concern. The IDS framework delivers a more direct many-to-one relationship between the physicians and the billing center, replacing the cumbersome communication line of a fax machine in the hospital sending handwritten notes to the billing office.

AbbaDox Charge Capture embeds logic into the application to predict coding and billing levels for each patient encounter and notifies the provider of missed charges. The application works on both desktop and mobile devices to give physicians, nurses and managers maximum flexibility when inputting charge details. Physicians and nurses can use workstations, tablets or smartphones to enter codes and manage patients, respectively.

"It's an elegant solution that required no major change of behavior or capital investment, yet the return from a financial standpoint is substantial," remarked President of the Baptist Health Systems Medical Group division Elizabeth Mulins. Administrators were pleased with the implementation, noting the fact that it was a surprisingly short and virtually painless process. From beginning to end, even with the highly customized workflows, the AbbaDox Charge Capture roll-out lasted just a few weeks."

"Because AbbaDox Charge Capture is wireless and doesn't intrude on the hospitalists' regular routines, user adoption was smooth and rapid," said IDS CEO Yaniv Dagan. "One of their biggest concerns was speed - they needed charge capture to take no more than thirty seconds. Anything longer than that and adoption was going to be a problem. We are pleased to report the entire data capture process averages between 5 and 20 seconds."

The cloud application operates as an overlay to the existing health information management (HIM) system, but is seamlessly integrated into the hospital's physician portal. It also provides remarkable reporting capabilities, giving administrators the ability to see, down to the second, when charges are submitted, as well as any missed charges and by whom. Current workload reports reveal productivity rates and allow administrators to identify problems and analyze trends.

Nurses and department managers also benefit from the application with features designed specifically for their needs, such as the ability to assign and adjust a physician's patient list and the ability to filter the complete hospital census by doctor, department or floor.

About a dozen physicians participated in the initial roll-out with more scheduled to come online in the coming months.

IDS will be showcasing AbbaDox Charge Capture at the upcoming HIMSS 2013 conference (Booth 8019) in New Orleans, LA.
