Intel India MD Amar Babu to move to US

(The Economic Times (India) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) : There is likely to be a change of guard at Intel India with its managing director - sales and marketing, Amar Babu moving to a different role and geography within the chip giant.

Mr Babu has spent about four years in the current role. Most probably, Mr Babu will be moving to the US, though the exact role and designation is not known.

When queried about the move, Mr Babu remarked that it would be speculative to comment but added that it was a normal process for an organisation like Intel to move its people from one location to another.

Mr Babu was the public face for Intel India in the recent times both in terms of its marketing and explaining the position of the company. Intel's sales and marketing office is based in Bangalore and has around 200 people with offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Chandigarh and Kolkata.

Their main functions include providing sales and support at the levels of original equipment manufacturer (OEM), developer and end-user.

Intel India also saw a change in guard in October last with Franklin Jones taking over as president from Ketan Sampat. Mr Jones apart from overseeing the research activities at the Intel India Development Centre in Bangalore is also responsible for managing its relationship with governments both at the Centre and State levels and its education initiatives.

There has been a strong commitment from Intel in its India operations, having announced an investment of $1bn and the visit of its two CEOs in a span of six months. However, Intel India in the recent past has seen certain negative developments with it having stopped the work on certain processors out of Bangalore as well as firing some of its employees for reportedly producing fake bills.

There have also been reports that as part of a global plan, employee efficiency in the Indian operations are under scanner and there might be job losses.
