The Fayetteville Observer, N.C., TV Diva column

Feb 08, 2013 (The Fayetteville Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- 'TOUCH' Kiefer Sutherland's post-"24" series received critical acclaim last year, and it's back for a second season. Sutherland plays Martin, whose son, Jake, doesn't say much. But he's got supernatural abilities, a talent that allows him to "perceive the seemingly hidden patterns that connect every life on the planet," according to a network description. It's a nice little skill to have, since Martin can see the global "big picture" about how people's lives are connected. It's also a nice little skill that bad guys want to exploit. In Season 2, the setting moves from New York to Los Angeles, and Jake and Martin are on the run from the aforementioned bad dudes. They are trying to find a mother and her daughter, who also has special powers. The sci-fi elements, combined with the show's emotional characteristics, might be a good substitute for fans of the newly departed "Fringe." Friday, 8 p.m. Fox 'THE JOB' It's a sign of the times when we have a new reality competition that is all about interviewing for and landing a job. Sure, we had "The Apprentice" (the non-celebrity version) where a season-long interview would result in a lucky candidate getting a job with the Donald Trump empire. But this new series does not have time for a season-long interview. Instead, each week will have five candidates vying for a job at assorted companies. In the premiere, they will try to get an assistant manager job with a fine-dining restaurant group. Next week, they will try to get a job as an editorial assistant with Cosmopolitan. In addition to execs from the hiring company, other companies will be there to recruit the candidate. (Sounds a bit like "Shark Tank" to me.) Lisa Ling is the host. Friday, 8 p.m. CBS 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' Justin Bieber has proved he's got some comedic chops in past episodes, where he has occasionally popped in on a sketch. This weekend, he will pull a Justin Timberlake by hostingandperforming. Saturday, 11:30 p.m. NBC ___ (c)2013 The Fayetteville Observer (Fayetteville, N.C.)
