Ericsson to Showcase North American Broadband Strategy at NXTcomm 2007(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Ericsson will illustrate at NXTcomm how its recent acquisitions -- Redback, Entrisphere, Tandberg Television -- have bolstered the company's position in North America and enhanced its ability to create full-service broadband networks delivering IP-based multimedia services anytime, anywhere to any device. The show takes place from June 19-21 in Chicago, McCormick Place. Ericsson will also hold a briefing with President and CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg and Angel Ruiz, head of Ericsson North America as well as Kevin DeNuccio, head of Redback and Eric Cooney, head of Tandberg Television, for media, industry and financial analysts on Tuesday, June 19, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m. Briefing topics for discussion include: -- A broader portfolio than ever before - True end-to- end solutions Ericsson's technology leadership, consumer understanding and acquisitions of Marconi, Redback, Entrisphere and Tandberg Television create complete, integrated networking solutions for wireless, wireline and converged operators -- A strengthened North American position. The recent acquisitions are a validation of Ericsson's strong commitment to the North American market -- Full Service Broadband - broadband access from any device or screen, anywhere, anytime. In the office, in the home, on the move - Ericsson ensures consumers get access to the services they want on the device of their choice -- The evolving TV experience Ericsson has a comprehensive IPTV and mobile TV offering, enhanced by Tandberg Television, and a strong vision for the future of TV. In a release, Ericsson provided descriptions of its booth demonstrations: IPTV Ericsson has an end-to-end Internet Protocol Television offering available now to help operators and service providers deliver the latest multimedia service to their customers. Ericsson's IPTV solutions run the gamut, whether delivered to a mobile phone, computer or through a set-top box to a traditional television. Mobile TV Mobile TV is being commercially launched worldwide today. The cellular network offers a fast track to the TV audiences as existing 2.5G/3G terminals, networks and spectrum can be utilized to provide Mobile TV services. Ericsson's end-to-end solution includes everything that is needed to provide Mobile TV, including network features, service layer enablers, professional services and mobile phone clients. As usage of mobile TV services increases, the cellular network can be upgraded with additional capacity, such as HSPA, and with MBMS broadcasting to meet mass market demand. In this way, unicast and broadcast technologies will co-exist, enabling a complete Mobile TV service and user experiences beyond traditional TV. HSPA to the Screen of Your Choice (from Handsets to Laptops) HSPA continues to gain market share and momentum with more than 100 commercial launches. Ericsson will show the power of true broadband with HSPA in the downlink and uplink. This demonstration will use PC cards from different manufacturers, Ericsson Mobile Broadband HSPA Embedded Modules for laptop computers and the latest Ericsson Fixed-Wireless Terminals, showing the strong usage potential of HSPA for mobile and wireless broadband services. The HSPA devices support up to 7.2Mbps in the downlink and up to 3.6Mbps on the uplink. Ericsson offers HSPA support on many frequency bands ranging from 850 MHz to 2.6 GHz. Deep Fiber Access through GPON/VDSL2 Deep fiber access to the home and to the neighborhood using GPON and VDSL2 technologies will be demonstrated using parallel HDTV (High Definition TV) channels. Converged Multimedia Services (CMSI) Ericsson's vision of enabling multiple applications over multiple access points is taking another step forward with the Company's demonstration of a commercially available IMS Common System with common service enablers. It reflects Ericsson's commercial IMS applications and shows seamless communication for voice, video, "Push to Talk" and chat. The demo will focus on the laptop and handheld device to show how converged services can be delivered to any screen. IPTV features will be included on the starter demonstration in the same area. Summit Tech, a gaming third party application developer in concert with Electronic Arts, will be integrated into the demo. IMS Multimedia Telephony IMS Multimedia Telephony (IMT) allows network operators and service providers to implement new revenue-generating multimedia services. For the enterprise user the operator can offer Multimedia telephony, presence and instant messaging. Based on IMS, it enables operators to evolve their current fixed or mobile telephony offering for both residential and enterprise customers with services like presence, messaging and IP Centrex including mobile extensions. Residential Base Stations: Femto Cell Solutions (2G + 3G) A GSM or HSPA Femto Access Point is a residential Base Station using IP over Ethernet. It is a low output power Base Transceiver Station that suits uncomplicated installation in the home.
