CSR today announced that Telechips' latest multimedia software development kit features wireless connectivity using CSR's BlueCore4-ROM for Bluetooth and UniFi-1 Portable for WiFi technologies. BlueCore will allow users to wirelessly connect to stereo Bluetooth headphones, and UniFi will allow connection to access points for downloading music or video files, or to a PC for file transfer.

Telechips' multimedia software development kit is available now, and will dramatically reduce time to market for new design solutions incorporating both Bluetooth and WiFi; such as MP3 players, PMP, mobile TV, PND, car and home audio, etc.

The Telechips design runs on both of the most common operating systems for multimedia players, Windows CE, MicroC/OS-II and Nucleus, making the design easy for customers to integrate and use. In addition, running CSR's BlueCore Host Software (BCHS) stack on the multimedia applications processor eases the design process as well as lowering the cost; compared to previous solutions.

By using CSR's technologies for both Bluetooth and WiFi, Telechips benefits from industry leading coexistence capabilities. CSR's proprietary interference avoidance techniques ensure that the two wireless technologies are 'aware' of each other, reassuring users that Bluetooth and WiFi can be used simultaneously without any effect on the quality of either. This means that this is the only available combination of WiFi and Bluetooth devices that enables files can be downloaded from the internet at the same time that the user listens to music, streaming via Bluetooth, on stereo headphones without audio or download speed issues.

CSR benefits from working with such a widely recognised multimedia solution partner in the market as Telechips, whose previous customers include names such as Samsung, Philips, Sony, JVC, BestBuy, Disney and Sandisk.

Tracy Hopkins, Vice President of CSR's Consumer Business Unit, commented. "The intrinsic portability of an MP3 player or PMP is perfect fit for CSR technology, as we've always striven to provide the lowest power Bluetooth and WiFi silicon on the market." Hopkins continued. "Telechips has a strong working relationship with many of the top MP3 and PMP manufacturers in the world, so expect to see wireless-enabled PMPs courtesy of Telechips and CSR on the shelves within the next six months."

Min-ho Seo, Chief Executive Officer and President of Telechips, said, " Wireless connectivity is widely demanded among customers and end- users. So, many companies have focused on multimedia solutions with wireless connectivity." Seo continues. "It is meaningful for both of us to work together as Telechips can use CSR's low power and low cost solution, already recognised as a strong and comprehensive one in the market."

Following in the footsteps of products including VoWiFi handsets, gaming consoles and stereo headsets, PMPs are the latest devices to be wirelessly enabled by CSR's technologies.
