Colorado BioScience Association Highlights Innovative Spirit, Collaborative Culture in ColoradoColorado BioScience Association (CBSA) launched the new issue of its annual magazine, Colorado Bioscience: Igniting the Future, during the 2018 BIO International Convention in Boston. The 2018-2019 magazine taps female leaders for their perspectives on diversity in bioscience, focuses on the collaborative culture created by Colorado's incubators and accelerators, and examines the micro-ecosystem credited with advancing orthopedics. April Giles, President and CEO of CBSA, says: "With investment results demonstrating the importance of female leadership and the success of diverse teams, we asked senior women in our sector for their insights. We talked about balancing boardrooms to build stronger businesses, diversifying teams for more creative ideas and providing better access to capital for start-ups with female founders. We are also proud of the results driven by our up-and-coming leaders, who are rising the ranks in their companies, taking risks and cultivating amazing scientific success." The new issue also measures the impact of the Colorado's Advanced Industry Grant program. Since inception, the state has supported 344 grants totaling $52 million. Jennifer Jones, Vice President of CBSA, says: "Colorado's Advanced Industry Grant Program plays a critical role in the success of our bioscience industry. To date, the program is credited with creating 761 new jobs, 67 new companies and $521 million in additional investment. This program encourages public-provide partnerships and sends a strong message that Colorado supports innovation industries." An entire ecosystem of incubators, accelerators and integrators help start-up and scale-up developers of software, hardware, medical devices and pharmaceuticals bring their ideas to market more quickly. Some include: Fitzsimons Innovation Community, Innosphere, BoomTown HealthTech Accelerator and the soon-to-open Catalyst HTI. These facilitators occupy universities, biotech parks, multi-floored innovation centers, classrooms and boardrooms. Additionally, the magazine focuses on a thriving micro-ecosystem of orthopedics-focused companies. In addition to a concentration of spinal and surgical solutions, other products and research coming out of the state include biologics, hip, knee, and shoulder products, and nonsurgical solutions to orthopedic disorders.
