BRIEF: Citizens' online banking site problems blamed on high traffic

Jan 25, 2013 (Boston Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Citizens Bank is blaming high traffic volume for the disruption to its online banking site.

Customers logging onto the site this morning were greeted with an advisory that online services were "not available at this time." The website was also down yesterday.

"Our website has experienced temporary disruptions due to an unusually high volume of Internet traffic, similar to disruptions that have impacted other U.S. banks," said Jim Hughes, spokesman for the Providence-based bank. "Customer accounts and personal information are not affected. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience as we work to resolve this issue." For immediate service, the bank said customers should visit one of its branches or ATMs, or call its 24/7 customer contact center at 800-922-9999.

Hughes did not respond to Herald questions regarding how long the site has been out of service and how long it would take to resolve the issue.
