British PM Cameron to Get His Own Personalized iPad App

By Beecher Tuttle, TMCnet Contributor

What do you get for the man who has everything? His own iPad app, of course.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, a well-known addict of Apple's (News - Alert) iconic tablet device, will soon be the owner of a personalized application loaded with real-time information on crime statistics, unemployment numbers and other critical government data, according to The Telegraph. The app will also include news feeds from sources like Google (News - Alert) and Twitter as well as the latest NHS waiting-list figures.

The idea was apparently born from a recent U.S. trip made by Cameron's advisors, who might have noticed our own president's mobile device addiction. Obama is known as a huge Blackberry devotee and a big iPad 2 fan. The 50-year-old commander-in-chief is also a member of every major social media site, including Facebook (News - Alert) Twitter, LinkedIn and, most recently, Foursquare (News - Alert).

Considering the private nature of Cameron's iPad data, the application will not be rolled out overnight. The Telegraph reports that a team from the Cabinet Office has been charged with the task of creating the integrated app which won't be ready for use until March of next year.

Once launched, the application will make the iPad less of an entertainment tool for Cameron. The Daily Mail recently inked a feature on the Prime Minister's most utilized iPad applications, including Angry Birds, TuneIn Radio, Twitter (News - Alert) and the American TV show Desperate Housewives.

In more sobering news, Cameron is reportedly planning on attacking the binge drinking problem overseas by imposing a minimum price for alcohol in shops and supermarkets. The plan, first reported by The Daily Telegraph, would either involve banning the sale of alcohol below a certain threshold or invoking higher taxes on moderately-priced booze.

"The prime minister has decided that, when it comes to alcohol, something pretty radical now has to be done and he is keen on the minimum price," a Whitehall source told the paper.

The report comes just a few weeks after British medical leaders warned that "pocket money prices" for alcohol were endangering British citizens.
