Apple Plans on Launching Integrated Televisions in 2012

By Monica Gleberman, Contributing Writer

Rumors have been circulating that Apple is looking to launch their own set of televisions in next year. SlashGear said Apple (News - Alert) plans on launching three television sets ranging in size from a 32-inch to a 55-inch.

The Apple HDTV will be a more than just the stand alone Apple TV currently offered in the Apple store for $99. This television will have seamless integration with other Apple devices.

Smart houses’ David Richard said the television will even incorporate some new equipment. “A totally new software interface has been written that allows users to call up programs using voice commands via the new Siri personal assistant app built into the iPad, iPhone (News - Alert), and directly into the TV,” said Richard.

Gene Munster, Piper Jaffray managing director and senior research analyst, spoke recently at the Business Insider’s Ignition: Future of Media Conference saying that Apple would launch a new TV offering called iTV in time for the holiday season.

Munster said that the televisions would not come cheap. “They would retail for twice the price of an equivalent set,” said Munster. He claimed the higher retail cost would be justified due to the comprehensive integrations it would offer.

Apparently, this is not the first time Apple has considered creating its own television. In Walter Isaacson’s book, Steve Jobs (News - Alert) said Apple made a breakthrough. “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it,” said Jobs.

Munster and Jaffray said they believe the televisions would have an option of being controlled from your iPad or even using an app on the iPhone. Munster said consumers should expect the televisions to come out next year just in time for the holiday season.
