Amazon.com Getting a Jump on Black Friday Sales

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

The holiday season is always a busy one for Amazon.com (News - Alert) and it appears the internet retailer is getting a jump on things this year. While Black Friday is still a few weeks away, Amazon has announced they will be running a program called “Countdown to Black Friday (News - Alert).” The site will be offering daily deals from now until the real madness begins on the day after Thanksgiving.

Amazon has plenty of reasons to want to bring in as many customers as they possibly can, given the big changes and additions the company has touted over the last few months. Of course, one of the items the internet retailing giant hopes will be a big seller is their own tablet computer, which some have dubbed the “iPad Killer.” The Kindle Fire will almost surely bring in some pretty hefty sales numbers before Christmas.

Amazon has also covered its bases by making it even more attractive to sign up for the Amazon Prime service. As an Amazon Prime member, users will be able to get free two-day shipping on any order for $79 a year. For people who do a lot of their shopping online, that fee could save them money on their first couple of purchases this month.

Of course there are now multiple other reasons than saving money to get Prime. Customers were already getting to watch a huge library of streaming movies and television shows but now they will also be able to download and borrow eBooks onto their Kindle devices.

Amazon said that they want to being giving their deals a bit early with a press release saying, “We thought we’d get the deals going a little early. We’re counting down to Black Friday Deals Week with, yes, even more deals, all day, every day. Black Friday sales, Cyber Monday (News - Alert) specials, Amazon’s best deals – you’ll find them right here.”

Amazon doesn't appear to be the only company who will be doing Black Friday a bit earlier than usual this year. Several retailers have announced that their Black Friday sales will commence at midnight on Black Friday instead of the usual wee hours of the morning.
