By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

Technology innovator and pioneer Archos has announced the launch of its new G9 Android (News - Alert) tablets starting on September 20. Unwrapped in June, the maker claims that G9 tablets are an unrivaled combination of speed and affordability. The company is planning to launch two Android 3.2 tablets this month. The Archos G9 line will come in both 8-inch and 10-inch screen variations, with the base model priced at $299.

At $299, Archos said that 8-inch G9 tablets will be the first to enter the market with a dual-core, Android Honeycomb 3.2 operating system and an OMAP 4 processor with an ARM (News - Alert) Cortex dual-core A9 at 1 GHz.

Pushing the technological boundaries even further, Archos said that G9 Turbo will be the first and only Android tablet in the market under $400 to use the OMAP 4 dual-core processor up to 1.5 GHz, which gives it 50 percent more raw computational power over its 1 GHz competitors.

While the 8-inch G9 tablet, labeled Archos 80, offers 1024x768 resolution with 8 GB of flash storage and 1 GHz Cortex A9 dual-core processor, the larger 10-inch model, Archos 101, offers  1280x800 screen resolution with 1.5 GHz OMAP 4 dual-core processor. In terms of thickness and weight, Archos 80 is 0.46 inches thick and weighs 17 ounces, Archos 101 is 0.5 inch thick and weighs under 1.5 pounds.

With Adobe (News - Alert) Flash 10.3 support for the true web experience, Archos G9 tablets include access to Android Market, which has more than 250,000 applications available for download. To give the user more storage for media and apps, the Archos G9 tablets offer flash storage and 250 GB hard drive storage capacities.

According to Archos, the Archos 80 G9 tablet featuring a 1 GHz dual-core processor will be on pre-sale starting September 20, 2011 on ARCHOS.com. It will be available online and at select retailers including HHGregg, Amazon, Newegg, Tiger Direct, Brandsmart and Electronic Express on September 30, 2011.

The Archos G9 tablets will be available in all stores and online in October, Archos said.
