A new study based on Google (News - Alert) search data reveals that California has the strongest interest in ChatGPT use cases, prompts, and integrations.
The research by digital marketing agency, Hyper Dog Media, analyzed monthly Google search volumes for 20 ChatGPT-related terms, including “ChatGPT for SEO,” “ChatGPT keyword research,” “ChatGPT plugins,” “ChatGPT enterprise,” “ChatGPT marketing,” and “ChatGPT vs competitors” across multiple U.S. states. Average monthly searches were compared to population estimates for 2025 to reveal the states with the highest interest in ChatGPT-related queries.
California ranks first with an average of 787 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, a 65.8% higher search interest than the national average of 474.80. The state, home to 39,663,800 residents, recorded 311,970 average monthly searches for ChatGPT terms. Popular keywords include “ChatGPT login,” “ChatGPT app,” “ChatGPT enterprise,” and “ChatGPT for SEO.”
Maryland ranks second, with an average of 781 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, a 64.5% increase above the national average of 474.80. With a population of 6,309,380, Maryland recorded 49,260 average monthly searches including phrases like “ChatGPT login,” “ChatGPT app,” and “ChatGPT prompts list.”
Colorado places third, with an average of 778 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, 63.9% more searches than the national average of 474.80. The population of 6,013,650 residents recorded 46,770 average monthly searches for keywords such as “ChatGPT login,” “ChatGPT app,” and “ChatGPT for content writing.”

New York ranks fourth with an average of 708 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, 49.1% higher than the national average of 474.80. The Big Apple (News - Alert) State recorded 141,610 average monthly searches among its 19,997,100 residents, focused on terms like “ChatGPT login,” “ChatGPT app,” and “ChatGPT marketing.”
Virginia takes fifth place with an average of 706 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, a search activity 48.7% above the U.S. benchmark of 474.80. The Old Dominion State of 8,887,700 people recorded 62,770 average monthly searches for terms such as “ChatGPT login,” “ChatGPT app,” and “ChatGPT for SEO.”
Florida ranks sixth with an average of 696 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, followed by Massachusetts (7th) at 694, New Jersey (8th) at 659, Texas (9th) at 656, and Connecticut (10th) at 627.
