Migration to Ispmanager from other Linux Control Panels

Why should you choose the simple Linux control panel by ispmanager over other control panels? Perhaps you have even decided to migrate to ispmanager from another Linux control panel but do not know how to go about the migration. Then, this guide is for you. This guide describes how to migrate to ispmanager from other Linux control panels.

Ispmanager Linux control panel

At some point in your business, running your websites and web hosting accounts on more robust, secured, feature-rich, and user-friendly control panels may become necessary. Ispmanager Linux control panel makes server and domain management easier. In addition, ispmanager isn’t too heavy with graphics and uses fewer resources, unlike other control panels. Thus, making it a fast and easy-to-use control panel.

The ispmanager Linux-based control panel has different versions (Lite, Pro, Host, and Business), and you can migrate to any of the versions depending on your requirements. Furthermore, ispmanager is compatible with Linux distributions such as CentOS, Ubuntu (News - Alert), AlmaLinux, and Debian. If you want to incorporate your tools into the operating system, then you need not worry because ispmanager will not disturb the tools.

Data types that you can import to ispmanager

Data transfer is the central to migrating from one Linux control panel to another. Fortunately, when trying to migrate to ispmanager, there is a zero-to-no risk of losing your data during the process. The  ISPmanager server is robust enough to accommodate any data transfer. Listed below are the types of data you can import to ispmanager.

·         User files, data, quotas, and passwords

·         Domain configuration files

·         Resource records

·         FTP users

·         Web-domains

·         Mail domains

·         Mailboxes, including their contents

·         MySQL, Percona (News - Alert), PostgresQL databases

·         Database of users

·         SSL certificates

·         CSR (News - Alert) requests

Preparing for the data export

While preparing to export data to another control panel, you must ensure sufficient disk space on both the source and destination servers. For instance, if you are migrating from cPanel, you need to have a disk space of at least the same amount as the data to be transferred from the cPanel server. Similarly, the ISPmanager server you are migrating to should also have at least 5GBs more than the size of the data you are transferring. In addition, you need to ensure that the version of the source control panel is compatible with the ISPmanager control panel for data transfer.

Before migration, it is vital to check that the limits on domain names, user databases, and FTP users are more than 0. To do this check, follow the instructions below.

1.    Log in to the control panel WHM.

2.      Go to “Packages”  → “Edit package” → “Edit.”

3.    Edit the value in “Resources” and click on “Save changes.”

After completing these instructions, you can proceed to the next step, explained below.

Exporting data from the control panel

From whichever control panel you are migrating from, you will need to export data from the control panel before importing it to ispmanager. For example, if you are migrating from cPanel, follow the instructions below to download a backup copy of your date.

1.    Log in to the control panel.

2.      Go to “Dashboard” → “Files” → “Backup.”

3.      Press the button “Download a Full Website Backup.”

4.      Select the Home directory in the Backup destination and press the “Generate Backup.”

5.      Click on “Back.”

6.    After the backup is generated, click on the link with the backup and download the archive to your computer.

However, if you are migrating from a control panel like Plesk, follow the instructions below.

1.    Go to “Tools & Settings” from the main menu.

2.      Go to the “Backup Manager” module.

3.      In the “Backup Manager” module, click “Back Up.”

7.      After, clicking “Download”, the “Download the Backup File” form will open. Next, clear the “Use password protection” checkbox to disable password encryption.

8.    Click “OK” to download the selected backup copy.

Importing data to ispmanager

After exporting the data from your current control panel, it is time to import it to ispmanager. The importing process is straightforward irrespective of the control panel you are importing from to ispmanager. However, users and their limits in the archive will be applied if you import as a system administrator. Conversely, the limits will not be applied, and the data will be imported if the archive contains a user if you import data as a user. Are you ready to import data to ispmanager? Follow the instructions below.

1.    Log in to ispmanager.

2.      Go to “Tools” → “User import.”

3.      Select “Upload archive.”

4.      Select “From local archive or directory” to import several archives.

5.      Select the backup file downloaded from the control panel you are importing from to ISPmanager.

6.      Click on “Ok” to start the backup recovery.

7.      Edit the resource records if needed in “Domains” → “Domain names” → “Records.”

8.      Follow the instructions below to check that the corresponding PHP version is installed.

·        ispmanager lite — log in as the superuser and go to “Settings” → “Features.”

·        ispmanager business — log in as the superuser or admin and go to “Web-server settings” → “PHP.”

Did any error occur? Look up the report in “Accounts” → “Users” → “Details.”
