Facebook Phone Launch Delayed Indefinitely in Europe

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Remember when the Facebook (News - Alert) Phone was the next big thing in the smartphone industry? For about two weeks there was talk that the social networking site might be bringing a social media phone to the market. There are certainly people who are still excited about being able to have more access to Facebook right through their home screen via Facebook Home. While there are some people who were excited, that wasn’t exactly the huge news that some were expecting.

Already it appears that the bloom is coming off the rose so much that AT&T (News - Alert) is marking down the phone that has the Facebook Home interface. While originally $99, the HTC First has been dropped to 99 cents. Now the social media site has announced it has officially delayed the launch of the HTC (News - Alert) handset that runs Facebook Home in Europe.

The worst news of all for the company is that apparently the launch was actually delayed due to customer feedback. The BBC reports that this is also just the latest in a long line of bad news for HTC. In the last few months, several of the company’s big wigs have moved on. There have actually been some people who have turned to other social media formats in order to tell their former coworkers that they need to leave the sinking ship.

HTC had been hoping that tying itself to Facebook would be one way to spark an upward trend for the company. The social networking site seems to know that there are real problems with the operating system and HTC. In a recent statement, the company said it listened to customer complaints and that was one of the reasons that the launch was delayed.

The company is looking to add more customization and features that customers say they want. At this point, there is no new release date announced and it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility that the project could be pushed back quite a bit.
