ShopKick Mobile Rewards at Macy's Stores

By Lyndsay Krisel, TMCnet Contributor

Macy’s Retailer is Shop kicking it with a Shopkick’s (News - Alert) mobile rewards program, finally making its way to more than 800 of its stores.

Shopkick, a major rewards program, allows shoppers to check in on their mobile devices when they walk into a store, and interact with products. This project, however, can be quite costly, as it requires the installation of transmitters to emit signals, which is then picked up by the smartphone.

But according to today’s recent updates, there has been a new partnership that includes a cheaper, more effective music player.

“The speaker solution is cheaper to install for the retailers,” said Doug Galen, Shopkick’s chief revenue officer. “In fact, many retailers manage their music centrally at the music provider’s headquarters so installation work is done only once. Additionally, the music system is traditionally a cost center. Now, we are using that existing cost and investment to drive revenue.”

Since ShopKick partnered with Mood Media Corporation, its integration has become nationwide, tapping into more than 7,000 stores across 250 U.S. malls. Other similar retailers using Shopkick include Target, American Eagle Outfitters, Best Buy (News - Alert) and Crate & Barrel.

Affordability and speed to market are two major selling points, sources say, as Shopkick pitches its service to more merchants. But those who use the app receive “Kicks,” which are points that can be redeemed for gift cards, song downloads or movie tickets.

So let’s hope shoppers can “kick it” in stores with their smartphone.
