Unified Social is a new company, launched in January 2012, offering brands and agencies a cloud-based technology to execute social media desktop and mobile campaigns, and has secured $14 million in new funding from Advance Publications Inc. and Silicon Valley Bank.
The social operating platform hopes to capitalize on new social media marketing industries looking for enterprise-grade social media management platforms, a vertical that has seen growth from top companies.
Unified Social offers a centralized dashboard for executing Facebook, Twitter (News - Alert), YouTube and StumbleUpon campaigns, among other social platforms, from planning a campaign, all the way to buying and optimizing it, streamlining the entire marketing process.
It also offers analysis tools that help determine return on investment in checks and balances, security, and other enterprise features to its clients.
“The enterprise as we know it is now required to become the social enterprise,” said Unified Social co-founder and CEO, Sheldon Owen. “We are solving this problem.”
Owen said the platform serves the needs of chief marketing officers seeking automated marketing platforms in managing their social media investments.
Unified Social has managed over 3,000 campaigns for over 200 brands since its launch. Some of its clients include Microsoft (News
- Alert), General Electric and Bloomberg. The company hopes to use the new funds to recruit more engineering talent, up from its current 26 employees and marketing teams, as well as continue innovating on its platform.
The decision to approach Advance Publications as a strategic investor, according to Owen, was based on the company’s other investments in online firms like Reddit, as well as the experience of Advance Publications’ SVP of Strategy and Corporate Development, Andrew Siegel. Siegel has worked at Yahoo, where he led mergers and acquisitions and would join Unified Social’s board.
The social media marketing platform space has recently seen growing interest, with companies like Salesforce acquiring Buddy Media and Oracle acquiring Vitrue. Both Buddy Media and Vitrue are social media marketing platforms. Adobe (News - Alert) Social, considered the greatest competitor for Unified Social, launched in March.
