By Chris Freeburn, TMCnet Web Editor

At the ITEXPO East in Miami, TMC (News - Alert) sat down with Patrick Tata, vice president and general manager, wholesale, at Windstream Corporation. Tata noted the company’s recent acquisition of PAETEC, which made Windstream (News - Alert) the fourth largest enterprise-based service provider in the communications technology market. He discussed how Windstream was leveraging the PAETEC brand to build market share in the resale environment.

Windstream’s resale offerings, including voice, data and managed services, would be supported by 23 new co-location centers the company had built to serve resellers and enterprise businesses, he said.

During the interview, Tata commented on the importance of the co-location centers to Windstream’s overall strategy. He explained how the co-location centers could impact various company services like disaster recovery, cloud computing and infrastructure as a service. He noted that the company had recognized the value of the co-location centers and had committed the resources to take advantage of their benefits.

The merger of PAETEC (News - Alert) and Windstream was discussed with Tata evaluating the strength of each company relative to the market they serve and commenting on the way in which integration would benefit end-users. He noted that PAETEC had provided a platform to shift the company’s business from residential to enterprise space. Tata explained how the PAETEC acquisition had allowed the company to expand its enterprise business.

Windstream’s service solutions and its operating philosophy relevant to market positioning were mentioned. He observed that Windstream was noted for its “white glove” treatment of customers and providing customized solutions to best meet the needs of clients.

In 2012, Tata forecast continuing integration and added financial muscle, the company was well positioned to grow in both the wholesale and enterprise sectors. He concluded by noting various opportunities in wholesale. Windstream is positioned as the on and off ramp to many voice of internet protocol (VoIP) players, he explained. He indicated that the company would become more aggressive and push into new markets.
