Perhaps you have an army of legacy mobile phones sitting in a drawer, or you think your MP3 player is just too outdated to use. You can put those old gadgets to good use and get some new swag, thanks to Amazon.
Following the likes of Best Buy (News - Alert) who offer an electronics trade-in program, Amazon has extended its own program to include gadgets. In return, the customer receives gift cards to purchase newer, cooler stuff on amazon.com
Tablets, cell phones, MP3 players, cameras and GPS devices are on the approved list of items one can ship off for trade. No need to worry about shipping, either. Amazon has you covered, there so not only do you get to clean out those drawers, it won’t cost you a cent.
“Technology is constantly evolving and newer, better versions of consumer electronics are introduced all the time,” said Paul Ryder, vice president of Electronics for Amazon in a statement. “We want to give customers the opportunity to get great value from their used electronics. Hundreds of thousands of customers have already received millions of dollars in gift cards from the other products in our program.”
Once received, your trade-in gadget will be inspected by Amazon and given a gift card value. Within a 48-hour time frame, a gift card will be deposited to your amazon.com account.
The amount you can get depends on the condition and kind of device you send in for trade in. According to Digital Trends, Amazon offered up to $143.25 for an 4th gen Apple iPod touch 32GB, $113 for a 3G iPod with 32GB and up to $340.75 for your old 64GB WiFi (News
- Alert) iPad model.
Previously, Amazon Trade-In only included items such as video games and DVDs and textbooks.
“The Electronics category is a natural extension and we are delighted to offer our customers more trade-in options,” said Ryder.
With Amazon Trade-In, only one box is needed to ship multiple items and shipping is free. Users can go to http://www.amazon.com/tradein and start searching for items to trade in.
