Operators Aim to Significantly Reduce Network Data Consumption with New TNS Solution

Multiple global operator groups can now take control of their data consumption costs thanks to a new Data Optimization and Hub Break Out solution from Transaction Network Services (TNS (News - Alert)).

The TNS hosted Data Optimization and Hub Break Out solution allows mobile operators to save money by reducing the amount of data consumed by their subscribers on 3G or 4G networks.

Since the re-emergence of unlimited data plans last year, operators are seeing increased backhaul internet traffic when subscribers roam from HD/SD video, always-on applications and sponsored/zero rated data services.

A survey* by TNS found 54% of subscribers continue to use apps when roaming outside their provider's home network and 42% leave apps open in the background on their phone when not viewing them.

Bill Versen, Chief Product Officer at TNS, said: "Delivering a superior service to subscribers has always been a top priority; however, our customers need to ensure their business remains viable by reining in wholesale data roaming costs. Our new Data Optimization and Hub Break Out solution will help operators to immediately address the issues and streamline traffic more effectively, without any impact on the subscriber experience."

Data optimization involves reducing file sizes by up to 40%, resulting in less data consumption and consequently lower wholesale data roaming fees, spectrum, and backhaul costs.

Regional and local Hub Break Out redirects data roaming traffic to local internet service POPs, eliminating the need to backhaul data to the home network. Using TNS' innovative regional Hub Break Out model also enables roaming users to be serviced closer to their physical location, minimizing latency, improving data speeds, and reducing page load times.

Mr. Versen said: "With less data crossing operator networks, we are helping operators to expand their bandwidth, give more capacity for new subscribers and business models, and deliver data at LTE (News - Alert) speeds."

TNS' Hub Break Out model supports localized and essential services, such as VoLTE E911 emergency calling. It also addresses regulatory compliance, federal mandates, and lawful intercept requirements.

Deep packet inspection is included in TNS' Data Optimization solution, which allows filtering to stop viruses and spam. Just in time delivery streamlines consumption to only data required, terminating transmission when subscribers end viewing.

From small rural operators in the US to the largest multi-national carriers, TNS has over 500 operator customers and addresses the full needs of wireless and wireline operators in the US and globally. TNS' networks have been specifically designed and configured for the transmission of transaction-related time sensitive data and support a variety of widely accepted communications protocols.
