Motorola Solutions Files Copyright Infringement Complaint Against Hytera Communications in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois

Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI (News - Alert)) today announced it has filed a motion to add a claim for copyright infringement to its litigation pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (the "District Court") against Hytera Communications Corporation Limited (SHE: 002583), Hytera America, Inc. and Hytera Communications America (West), Inc. The new claim asserts that Hytera has unlawfully copied Motorola (News - Alert) Solutions' source code into the source code used in Hytera products in violation of U.S. copyright laws, which only became known to Motorola Solutions during hearings related to the trade secret litigation.

As previously announced, in March 2017 Motorola Solutions filed complaints against Hytera in the District Court asserting that Hytera's two-way radios, base stations, repeaters and dispatch systems, as well as its related commercialization and sales activities, are infringing patents owned by Motorola Solutions and utilizing stolen Motorola Solutions trade secrets.

Motorola Solutions' new claim asserts that Hytera illegally obtained Motorola Solutions' source code for its software computer programs-among the most confidential and carefully guarded of Motorola Solutions' proprietary technology-and copied portions of it verbatim into Hytera's digital two-way radio products. Motorola Solutions believes this claim represents clear additional evidence that Hytera's employees copied Motorola Solutions' proprietary technologies. As a result, Motorola Solutions is bringing this new claim against Hytera for copyright infringement as part of its efforts to protect its valuable intellectual property from Hytera's copying and theft.
