Optiva Charging Engine Now Available on Google Cloud Spanner at 10 Times the Processing Performance

Telcos discover unparalleled speed, scale and savings results with new charging solution

TORONTO, July 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Optiva Inc. (TSX: OPT), an innovative software company that delivers mission-critical monetization and subscriber management solutions to leading communication service providers (CSPs) globally, today announced that its award-winning, fully customizable charging solution, Optiva Charging EngineTM (OCE), is now available on Google Cloud Spanner. This is another step forward for Optiva supporting their cloud transformation, following the announcement made on June 28, 2018, that OCE became generally available on Kubernetes.

Google Cloud Spanner is ideal for relational, structured and semi-structured data that requires high availability, strong consistency and transactional reads and writes. For telcos, OCE now empowers the industry to tap into a fully-managed cloud database, providing the stability and dynamic scaling that can handle more than 500,000 charging transactions per second.

"For years, Oracle has owned telco with its good, but limited, enterprise database capabilities. Now, with the availability of OCE on Google Cloud Spanner, telcos cn leverage the speed and elasticity of the cloud to process 10X the transactions at a tenth of the cost of an Oracle deployment*," said Danielle Royston, CEO of Optiva.

"With this development, we are one step closer to certifying OCE as a cloud-native application, proving to the industry that systems like OCE can absolutely take advantage of the exciting and disruptive innovation the cloud brings. This is another significant step forward on our $100 million product investment to bring speed, scale and lower TCO to telcos."

To handle the charging needs and opportunities created by exploding mobile growth, a distributed cloud system is needed that can handle database writes and reads synchronously, with low latency and strong consistency. CSPs must be forward thinking and equip themselves to take advantage of this disruptive technology to gain greater competitive advantage with OCE on Google Cloud Spanner, the only true carrier-grade BSS cloud platform with an end-to-end, converged charging solution.

Royston will be speaking on July 24, 2018, in San Francisco about Cloud Spanner. Her talk will take place at Google Cloud Next '18, Google's premier conference for IT leaders, developers and entrepreneurs. She will speak on the opportunity to innovate faster to the cloud and lessons learned by moving major telco charging systems from Oracle to Cloud Spanner.
