550 Business and Technology Leaders Gathered at the Inaugural Women in IT Awards at New York's Gotham Hall as 18 Award Winners Were Crowned across 16 CategoriesThe inaugural Women in IT Awards in America took place last night at Gotham Hall, New York. With just 25% of computing jobs in the US held by women, the event's goal was to showcase the achievements and innovation of women in technology and to identify new role models for young women. 18 awe-inspiring leaders were celebrated, with the volume and quality of nominations leading the judges to choose joint winners in two categories. Keynote speaker Diane Bryant, recently appointed as Chief Operating Officer at Google (News - Alert) Cloud, delivered a powerful speech emphasising the importance of diversity in driving innovation across America's tech sector. Some 550 people attended the celebration, a flagship and high-profile platform for the industry's wide-reaching diversity efforts. Despite it being the event's first year in the US, hundreds of nominations were received. Having quickly gained influence over the four years since its launch in London, the Women in IT Awards came to New York last night to continue spreading a positive, motivational message to women working in a male-dominated industry.
Lawrence Gosling, Editorial Director at Vitesse Media, said: "We are delighted that the Women in IT Awards continues to grow in size and influence and is now a real representation of how important inclusion is in technology. America faces the same diversity challenges as the UK, particularly in this industry, but to see how this event has been embraced in New York has yet again proven that businesses worldwide are increasingly recognising the issue and committing to making real change. To have a raft of influential partners support us in our endeavour to promote women in technology is incredibly important to us, and we are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with them putting together a very special evening. Congratulations again to all the finalists and winners." Editor's Notes
