Corey Danko Gibbs Fire Lawyers Seeks to Have Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslide Cases Heard in Santa Barbara Court

Corey, Luzaich, de Ghetaldi & Riddle, Danko Meredith and Gibbs Law Group, a coalition of California law firms known as Corey Danko Gibbs Fire Lawyers, filed a legal request this week for all lawsuits on behalf of Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslide victims to be coordinated and sent to Santa Barbara or Ventura County Court for pre-trial purposes. The request asserts that petitions filed by other lawyers attempting to move all cases to Los Angeles County, and to consolidate them with Rye and Creek fire cases, may negatively impact the Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslide victims and harm their legal claims.

Specifically, the request asserts that consolidating the cases in Santa Barbara Superior Court is sensible because the Court is in close-proximity not only to the fire-damaged properties, but also to the parties, the evidence, as well as the primary witnesses. Moreover, they assert that consolidating the cases with those of the Rye and Creek fires is haphazard and does not promote efficiency, which is the overarching goal of coordinated legal proceedings.

"Having started my legal career in the Santa Barbara courthouse, and then at a private firm a few blocks away, I know the capabilities of the local judicial ystem," said Corey Danko Gibbs attorney Amanda Riddle. "We wholeheartedly believe that the interests of the victims are best served in the local court, and I would be proud to return to Santa Barbara to fight for the rights of those affected by this tragedy."

"Corey Danko Gibbs Fire Lawyers have shown from the outset that they are committed to representing the interests of our community," said Ventura-based attorney and Thomas Fire victim Brian Osborne, "Our circumstances are unique to our region and we deserve to be represented before a local court, and not to have our claims lumped in with fire victims in other areas."
