In 2017, 8% of the top 100 films were directed by women. Although this is a 4% increase from 2016, it is still very far away from something that looks like parity. The fact so few women are able to break into the top levels of industry continues to show an ingrained cultural bias against women's ability to lead. Considering all aspects of the directing experience, Seeing is Believing: Women Direct shows how despite this ongoing bias, women lead with grace and strength, while overcoming creative, cultural and professional obstacles. The film is also intended to serve as a hub of mentorship for anyone looking for guidance, encouragement, and real world insights as they pursue their dreams of becoming a storyteller.

  • Cady McClain: Emmy-Award winning actress known to millions for film and TV roles. More recently, Cady has turned her talents to producing and directing, building a career in both TV and film, including a 2017 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for Venice the Series. Her documentary Seeing is Believing: Women Direct was the Audience (News - Alert) Award winner for Best Feature at the 2017 Soho International Film Festival. McClain will introduce the screening and panel discussion at Pepperdine University.
  • Bethany Rooney: Directed over 200 episodes of TV, National Board member of the DGA and Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee, co-author of Directors Tell the Story, teacher of the Warner Bros. TV Directors Workshop.

  • Finola Hughes: Director of the multi-award winning independent film "The Bet" and a pilot called "Cypress Bayou," she has also written and directed two shorts. Finola is known as an actress for her work in "Cats," "Stayin' Alive" and "General Hospital."
