Don't Miss the YMCA Youth & Family Services Mom Prom - March 9, 2018

YMCA Youth & Family Services (YFS) "Pretty in Pink" Mom Prom at the Silver Spring Civic Center is filling up fast, so get your tickets today. Over 300 guests will dance until they drop to raise funds for the YFS community and school based services benefitting at-risk and underserved children and families in the Silver Spring area.

The "Pretty in Pink" themed party will give local moms a well-deserved night out to meet other moms from all walks of life. Guests are encouraged to wear pink (unless it's just not their color) and dress for the 1980s - so big hair, shoulder pads and even leggings are invited. Eighties music from the likes of Michael Jackson (News - Alert), Whitney Houston and Madonna is on the playlist, so come prepared to dance.

"This is a year where women are finding their voices and making them heard," said Carson Henry, executive director of YFS. "What better way to honor women than to give them a prom where they can party like it's 1988, make new friends and take a night of."

The Mom Prom is also a good opportunity for marketers to reach local moms, who control purchasing in most families. Research shows that moms make 85% of household purchases and have a spending power nationally of $2.4 trillion. Women also purchase over 50 percent of traditionally male products including cars, home improvement and consumer electronics.

Funds raised from the Mom Prom will support YFS services such as individual and family counseling, school-based support, after-school programs and community building activities.

YFS is at the center of our community making lives better for all. For example, after the 2016 explosion in a Silver Spring apartment building, YFS helped families find shelter, furniture, clothing and rebuild their lives through its Linkages to Learning program.

The event is open to all and tickets are selling out fast so make sure to get yours. Tickets are $50 apiece or $360 for a table. To purchase go to Mom Prom DC. To volunteer contact: [email protected]. Like us on Facebook (News - Alert) at Mom Prom DC.

Current top sponsors include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Carlson Creative, Ivy Vine Charities, Nauticon Office Solutions, and The Silver Spring Civic Center.
