Roxbury Community College among the Top Producers of Fulbright U.S. ScholarsIn an annual report issued by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, Roxbury Community College (RCC) was named among the top producers of Fulbright Scholars. The Fulbright Program, which operates in over 125 countries around the world, is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program. RCC is one of only 25 associate and baccalaureate/associate institutions with a Fulbright scholar in 2017-2018; and, RCC is one of only two community colleges in Massachusetts to hold this honor. Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Cecile Regner, RCC's Fulbright scholar in 2017-2018, was part of a group of six higher educational professionals who traveled to Russia in April 2017. The purpose of the Fulbright-sponsored exchange was to develop a greater understanding of the U.S. higher education system, especially community colleges, among administrators and faculty in Russia. Exchange opportunities for students and faculty wre the primary focus of discussion. "We are proud that one of our distinguished leaders received a Fulbright grant," said Dr. Valerie Roberson, President of Roxbury Community College. "Vice President Regner's receipt of this grant showcases that academic excellence is a hallmark of the RCC experience." Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 380,000 participants-chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential - with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. Over 1,100 U.S. college and university faculty and administrators, professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, and independent scholars are awarded Fulbright grants to teach and/or conduct research annually. The Fulbright Program also awards grants to U.S. students and teachers to conduct research and teach overseas. In addition, some 4,000 foreign Fulbright students and scholars come to the United States annually to study, lecture, conduct research and teach foreign languages.
