Photometrics and Quorum Technologies Announce a New Partnership in Spinning Disk Confocal MicroscopyTUCSON, Ariz., Feb. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- US-based scientific camera designer and manufacturer Photometrics and Canadian owned scientific instrument developer Quorum Technologies have created a partnership to promote the Prime 95B™ Scientific CMOS camera and the Volocity high-performance imaging suite for spinning disk confocal microscopy. The powerful, fully integrated acquisition and analysis program, Volocity, combined with the world's first back-illuminated scientific CMOS camera, the Prime 95B, provides the perfect solution for spinning disk confocal imaging. Volocity is an innovative, high performance 3D imaging software product designed specifically for life science research. It allows the user to visualize, explore and analyze multi-channel 3D volumes over time, providing information that is difficult to obtain in any other way. It's a complete imaging package that consists of four unique, totally integrated products that provide a suite of tools for 2D, 3D and 4D imaging. These tools are coordinated through Volocity's unique Library format, which acts as a user-friendly image database for raw and quantified images. The user-friendly interface makes the powerful set of imaging tools in Volocity simple to find and use, upholding its strong focus on a clear graphical user interface and ease of use. Working together with the Photometrics Prime 95B, spinning disk confocal images can now be obtained with a 95% quantum efficiency and the high speed of CMOS architecture. The high sensitivity of the Prime 95B allows exposure times to be reduced by up to four times compared to conventional sCMOS devices, maximizig the signal-to-noise ratio while minimizing cellular photodamage. The large, 11x11 µm pixels provide additional sensitivity and have a large 80,000 e- full well capacity with a low 1.6 e- read noise, giving the Prime 95B a very high dynamic range, ideal for performing high contrast imaging. Larger pixels also fit perfectly with high magnification objectives, achieving Nyquist sampling without the need for any additional optics with 100x magnification typically used in spinning disk confocal microscopy. Volocity and the Prime 95B can be used with almost any spinning disk confocal microscope so is a perfect solution for anyone interested in improving the quality of their confocal imaging.
