Benesch Acquires International Private Client Group

Benesch has added an International Private Client Group, expanding its services for family offices and other private investors with a new level of global and multi-disciplinary strategic counseling.

International tax lawyer Matthew D. McKim, joining the firm as a partner, chairs the new group.

The International Private Client Group provides holistic, multi-disciplinary legal services to U.S. and non-U.S.-based families and family offices, with deep experience advising these clients on their cross-border financial and personal interests involving the United States. The team routinely develops structures designed to address U.S. gift and estate tax exposure, while also mitigating global income taxes. The attorneys also regularly represent families in multigenerational asset transfers, income tax issues and charitable giving techniques, offering planning services that integrate clients' business interests, family estate planning goals, strategic tax needs and retirement plan objectives.

In addition to representing families, individuals and family offices, the group represents the financial institutions that service these investors, including some of the world's best-known and respected trust companies and private banks.

Matt counsels clients on a wide range of US and non-US tax planning matters, assisting them in navigating the United States legal system and managing the many considerations hat come along with investing in, or moving to, the United States. His clients include established global families managing their own wealth in the multibillions and some of the world's most renowned trust companies, as well as entrepreneurs establishing family offices for the first time. Working with clients from Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and, of course, the United States, Matt focuses on providing tax-efficient strategies that address both business needs and family succession considerations.

"Matt's clients see him as their 'global quarterback,' someone who can help shape and execute their vision," said Benesch Managing Partner Gregg Eisenberg. "We feel the same way about bringing his leadership skills into our firm: he embodies the growth mindset and the deep focus on client service that define our firm's culture. We feel very fortunate to have him here."

Matt received his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad College of Law, his LL.M. in Tax from Georgetown University Law Center, and his B.S. from Youngstown State University. He joins Benesch from McGuireWoods.
