Exelon Breaks All-Time Giving Record by Donating More Than $46.5 Million and 200,000 Volunteer Hours to Communities in 2017

Exelon, along with the Exelon Foundation, its operating companies and 34,000 employees, achieved a new record in corporate philanthropy and volunteerism in 2017, committing $46.5 million in charitable giving and volunteering 200,000 hours.

"I am extremely proud of our employees for the positive impact they have had in strengthening their communities this year," said Maggie FitzPatrick, Exelon's senior vice president of Corporate Affairs. "During our Giving Tuesday initiative alone, more than 1,700 employees in 39 cities participated in over 150 service projects, restoring natural resources, volunteering at schools and feeding the hungry. Their efforts to give back are a true demonstration of our commitment to communities and supporting our neighbors, particularly during the holidays."

Exelon focuses the majority of its social investments on preserving the environment; enhancing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education; sustaining the arts and fostering strong and healthy communities.

"Through Exelon's support of our Lakeshore Preserve and ComEd's Green Region Program, Exelon and ComEd have enabled us to maintain open space projects focusing on environmental conservation, preservation and improvements to local parks and recreational resources," said Jerry Adelmann, president and CEO of Openlands, one of the oldest metropolitan conservation organizations in the nation. "Together for the last five years, we have been able to help communities throughout northern Illinois create and enhance open space where their citizens live, work and play."

"Exelon and its operating companies' support is critical to providing our 38,000 students with hands-on STEM education opportunities," said Mary Spruil, executive director of The NEED Project, which created the Energizing Student Potential initiative for students primarily in 5th to 8th grade in Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. "Not only have they given us grants to provide year-round academic support for approximately 275 schools, their employees have shared important lessons with our students, bringing their real-life experience to the classroom."

In keeping with Exelon's culture of giving back, nearly 8,500 Exelon, BGE, Constellation, ComEd, Exelon Generation, PECO (News - Alert) and Pepco Holdings employees and their families surpassed the goal of committing 180,000 hours of volunteer time to their communities by spending the equivalent of three workdays each helping those in need. They also exceeded the $8 million goal for Exelon's annual employee giving campaign by nearly $500,000. In addition to grants provided by Exelon throughout the year, employee efforts were matched by the company, bringing the total to $12.6 million. Employees also participated in the Exelon Foundation Matching Gifts Program, donating over $3 million to charity - a gift that was matched dollar for dollar, doubling the impact on the community.

Exelon, its operating companies and their employees are committed to giving back year-round to the communities where they live and work. In 2017, the company was named to Points of Light's list of the 50 most community-minded companies in the country, and Exelon also received honors from the Trust for Public Land, the Pro Bono Institute, the Northwestern Settlement House and Kids in Need of Defense, among others, for its leadership in corporate responsibility.
