CloudNOW Reveals STEM Scholarship Recipients at Annual Top Women in Cloud Innovation Awards Event, Hosted at Google

At an exclusive industry event hosted by Google (News - Alert), CloudNOW, the executive consortium for the leading women in cloud and converging technologies, revealed the recipients of their STEM scholarships for 2017.

Receiving scholarships were students at two different educational institutions: the Holberton School of Software Engineering, with funding underwritten by Google and Accenture (News - Alert), and the Shanti Bhavan Children's Project, with funding underwritten by Intel, Apcera and CB Technologies. These scholarship awards were created with the goal of enabling the next generation of leaders in overcoming social and financial inequities.

From Holberton, the students selected were:

  • Kristen Lyod: Post graduation, Kristen hopes be part of the Holberton alumni mentor network and to be an active voice in growing the Holberton community.
  • Olatope Agboola: Olatope is an exemplary student who also maintains a full-time job-a juggling act that even the most talented of students would struggle to manage.
  • Lindsey Hemenez: Lindsey commutes over six hours a day from Sacramento to San Francisco to attend Holberton.

From Shanti Bhavan, the students selected were:

  • Papitha: Papitha is studying to receive a Bachelor's degree in Computer Applications. She hopes to start her own design company and to help underprivileged people.
  • Rasiga: Rasiga is studying for a Bachelor's degree in Computers, Mathematics and Statistics. Rasiga is an avid soccer player and, in 2018, will be in trials for the national women's soccer team.
  • Tanuja: Tanuja is studying for a Bachelor's degree in Computer Applications and would like to be an app developer.

In addition to the scholarship recipients, the annual event featured presentations from CloudNOW's Top Women in Cloud Innovation Award Winners for 2017.; Additional speakers were Vinton Cerf, Co-Father of the internet and Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google, and artist and documentary filmmaker Jennifer Cloer, founder of the Chasing Grace Project.
