Big Universities Embracing Big Data Network Analytics To Gain A Tighter Grip On The End User Experience

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- EDUCAUSE CONFERENCE -- Nyansa, Inc. ("knee-ans-sah"), a fast-growing innovator of a new generation of network analytics software technology, today announced that its Voyance big data network analytics cloud service has been selected and deployed within some of the country's leading higher education institutions.

Arizona State University, Notre Dame, the University of St. Thomas and the University of Virginia are the newest schools to leverage Nyansa's cloud-based network analytics service, Voyance, to address the growing challenge of ensuring the best possible user network experience in the midst of unstoppable mobility, public cloud applications and IOT device proliferation within university access networks.

Since its introduction in April, 2016, Nyansa's Voyance solution has quickly become the largest cloud-based network analytics service in use within the Higher Education market. Voyance is now analyzing traffic from more than one million wired and wireless clients each week, supporting over 150,000 wireless access points across more than 40 different unversities nationwide.

"Given their size, scope and diversity, University network infrastructures are among the most challenging environments to manage in today's IT landscape," said Tom Klimek, IT Director at the University of Notre Dame.

"New network analytics solutions, making use of big data techniques and scalable cloud technologies, are proving immensely useful in quickly quantifying the end user experience. Until now, understanding the actual user experience at any given time for thousands of users has been next to impossible," concluded Klimek.

According to a new report from ZK Research, recent technological advances in the areas of machine learning and user performance management—using new network-based analytics technologies and sophisticated cloud-computing architectures—now promise to deliver more complete visibility and proactive tools to network operations staff to optimize the user experience within the enterprise access network.

GETTING ANSWERS, NOT JUST DATA, TRANSFORMS USER AND IT PRODUCTIVITY

With Voyance, University IT staff know what, where and why users are experiencing poor network performance without having to capture and analyze volumes of data from disparate network elements.

By constantly measuring every client network transaction, Voyance automatically identifies systemic user, device, network and application issues from perspective of the user without the need for client software, server agents or intrusive hardware. Additionally, Voyance proactively suggests remediation steps to recover the most number of lost client hours related to a given network service, device or network service problem.

Universities using Voyance have reported a 50 percent or more reduction in the time to find and fix user performance problems as well as the ability to characterize and quantify, in monetary terms, the impact of infrastructure changes before and after they were made.
